Coming up on Sunday, the Friends of Gulick Park are throwing a party.
Over the past few years, the neglected space on Delancey Street (at Willett) has received some TLC from the group, and they’re on the verge of fully funding a major restoration effort. This weekend’s event is part of the citywide “It’s My Park Day” and will include pumpkin painting, bulb planting and an obstacle course sponsored by the Manny Cantor Center at the Educational Alliance.
Earlier this year, the city signed off on plans for the revamp, which was only partially funded. But in recent months, the Friends of Gulick Park applied for a $2.5 million grant through the state Department of Transportation, which would allow the city to complete the entire project. They’re waiting to hear about that grant application. We’ll have more on these efforts next week.
Sunday’s event takes place from 1-5 p.m. See below for more details.
