A fire broke out overnight at 39 Eldridge Street (Canal), which is home to a preschool, the Inhabit Karaoke Lounge, as well as some residential units.
This morning, a New York Fire Department spokesman tells us the first call came in at 3:39 a.m. The fire started in an apartment on the 5th floor that was apparently vacant. Other residents made it out safely. According to the FDNY, 10 firefighters were treated for minor injuries, including smoke inhalation.
Preschool of America, which operates from 39 Eldridge, has many locations throughout Manhattan. We’ll check to see how the fire is impacting their operations today.
Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire.
