Weekend Music Picks

Must Read

Here are musician Ken Beasley’s top music picks on the Lower East Side for this weekend:

In One Wind

IN ONE WIND – Fri, Aug 12 | 11PM at Rockwood Music Hall

The Brooklyn sextet In One Wind creates pop/jazz songs that sound country, and indie rock songs that sound like cinematic scores. With melodic storytelling at the core of In One Wind’s sound, founder/songwriter Angelo Spagnolo submits his compositions in raw from and lets the band, as a collective, shape it into the finished product. The result is a thoughtful mix of musical talent and heartfelt sincerity. FREE// 196 Allen St.

BRIAN OLIVE – Sat, Aug 13 | 8PM at The Living Room

Brian Olive

A multi-instrumentalist with plenty of 70’s swagger, Brian Olive is a product of his guitar heroes and his own out-of-the-box production. Hailing from southern Indiana, Olive cut his teeth with rock outfits like the Soledad Brothers and The Greenhornes. These days he’s doing things his way, with his own band and a set of riff-heavy rock tunes reminiscent of Joe Walsh in his heyday. FREE//154  Ludlow St.

LAURA MINOR – Sun, Aug 14 | 8PM Parkside Lounge

Laura Minor

Florida native Laura Minor is now based out of Brooklyn, but she still holds tight to her southern roots. Minor sings with a confident voice about heartache and the poetry found in everyday life. Tiptoeing the line between contemporary anti-folk and classic Nashville twang, Minor’s songs resonate with a universal quality that says she knows what she’s talking about — and you know what she’s talking about — and she knows that you know that she knows what she’s taking about.  FREE// 317 East Houston St.

Splitting his time between performing and producing, contributor Ken Beasley primarily plays with his own roots/rock band, Ken Beasley & Co., as well as the power punk outfit, Missy Sport, while also curating the Underground at the Abrons music series on the Lower East Side
