Weekend Music Picks

Must Read

Here are musician Ken Beasley’s top music picks on the Lower East Side this weekend:

Chris Riffle

CHRIS RIFFLE – Thursday, Dec. 09 | 8PM at The Living Room

West-Coaster Chris Riffle, has made the big move, and set up shop in the East Village. The multi-instrumentalist has also capitalized on momentum brought on by opening for bands like Death Cab For Cutie, and recently being nominated for a Grammy for his 2nd album, “Introducing…” This Thursday at The Living Room, he’ll be joined on stage by a stellar group of musicians including cellist Julia Kent of Antony & The Johnsons, vocalist Miranda Zickler, and Jimi Zhivago of Olabelle, who incidentally also produced “Introducing…”   FREE // 154 Ludlow Street.

DEAKIN / PRINCE RAMA – Friday, Dec. 10 | 7PM at The New Museum

Deakin and Prince Rama

Josh Dibb, of Animal Collective and Deakin (his solo project), joins forces with Brooklyn’s Prince Rama as part of the New Museum’s “Get Weird” series. Dibb will showcase an array of highly textured samples that hold their balloon shape as he pierces them with well-placed, echo-y vocals. East Coast 3-piece Prince Rama fill out their side of the bill with a crafty mix of atmospheric chant, tribal beats, and dirty rock instrumentation. $15 // 235 Bowery.

THE GREGORY BROTHERS – Sunday, Dec. 12 | 7PM at Rockwood Music Hall

The Gregory Brothers

As the Gregory Brothers continue to ride the thunderous wave created by their rascally creation “Auto-Tune The News,” they’ll be jumping on stage once again for their (now) annual Christmas concert performance. This year, they’ve gathered some of New York’s talented up-and-comers to join the holiday hootenanny, including Kelley McRae , Dusty Brown, Zach Williams, and Sarah & The Stanleys. The Gregorys always provide a raucous good time, so forget how cold it is outside, spike your eggnog, and join the celebration at Rockwood Music Hall. $10 // 196 Allen Street.

Splitting his time between performing and producing, contributor Ken Beasley primarily plays with his own roots/rock band, Ken Beasley & Co., as well as the power punk outfit Missy Sport, while also curating the Underground at the Abrons music series on the Lower East Side.
