Wednesday, August 4
- Summer Stage is finally on its way down to East River Park with a slew of free concerts this month, beginning with George Lamond, Judy Torres and DJ Lucho. As we mentioned earlier, there will be FREE valet bike parking for each concert as well. // FREE // 7pm.
- Although the Slipper Room is still in “exile” (i.e., closed for their big renovation), you can get your dose of brews and burlesque with Mel Frye’s Preexisting Condition: an evening of live music, comedy and exotic dance, each Wednesday this month, while they are “on location” at White Slab Palace. $5 // 10pm // 77 Delancey Street.

- The New School is teaming up with the LES Ecology Center to bring AMPLIFY! Creative and Sustainable Lifestyles in the Lower East Side, an exhibition of sustainable community design, including innovative neighborhood gardening initiatives, to the Abrons Arts Center. Friday, August 6
- Abrazo Interno Gallery at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center will host a reception for their current show, The Invisible Woman, a multimedia exhibition by three artists who deal with representations of women in their work. - This week’s midnight movie at the Sunshine is British cult hit Shaun of the Dead. The Sunshine writes: A smash hit in the U.K., this “rom zom com” (romantic zombie comedy) follows the bloody funny adventures of underachiever Shaun (co-writer Simon Pegg) and his best mate Ed (Nick Frost) as they cope with a zombie invasion of North London. // $9.99 // midnight // 143 E. - Urban Voices Heard will be at the Nuyorican with the first installation of the “Listen Up” showcase, a music and poetry slam/event featuring Ibrahim Siddiq aka P.O.E.T., Noodle, James Kennedy, Speakers of the House, Christine-Jean Blaine and others. // $10.00 // 7pm // 236 E. 3rd Street.
- Blue Stockings Bookstore will host Jennifer Silverman reading from “My Baby Rides the Short Bus” with Shannon Des Roches Rosa, Jennifer Byde Myers and Sharis Ingram. BSB writes: Come out and hear contributors read the groundbreaking anthology written by counter-cultural parents of kids with special needs. - Abrons Arts Center will host the Peppermint UnPlugged: Big Gay Benefit for the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center in Chelsea.
