Krause Gallery NYC is proud to present "Point of View" artists Matt Colagiuri and Matthew
Bilfield. Both artists create an interesting point of view on how one views what they are seeing.
From afar all is in perfect harmony but up close the details are a bit blurred not unlike what we see everyday. The details have to be studied and observed to become clear.

Matt Colagiuri: The intent of my Sculptural Photography is always to deconstruct the readily
familiar and explore new levels of appreciation. When the human form is involved, I particularly enjoy playing with the many psychological implications that accompany the journey. By combining the figure with the cityscape, it becomes a question not just of how we impact the environment around us, but also how the environment impacts us. A sort of symbiosis is formed. From relationships to our dreams and ambitions to the mundane emotional swings of day to day life, where we are and what we choose are inextricably linked.

Matthew Bilfield: In the framework of the television graphics I create, I noticed it was always the image that constantly changes as the viewer watches, inactively. In conceptualizing a series of artwork, I wanted to create pieces where the vantage point dictates the image and abundance of color, in turn activating the viewer. Where the television screen has the screen framework as its boundary, I wanted to extend that boundary to the dimensions of the room itself. My idea was that everyone viewing the art gets his or her own unique perspective.
I enjoy the challenge of getting the most functional and aesthetic impact out of design simplicity. In creating the subject matter for my work, my goal is to push the amount of emotion I'm able to portray using a methodical medium that forces me to make definitive color placement choices. Often times the placement of only a few pegs can directly affect the overall mood of each piece. For my latest series, I looked to refine my construction technique to further help me push the detail and emotion I'm able to capture in the imagery, while working to simplify the panels that support them. To achieve this, I increased the density of the dowels and designed a frameless backing that allows the color and the images to take center stage.
