Poet Ama Birch discusses the process of translating her experience into poetry through her self-published work, Sonnet Boom, a collection of 88 sonnets on a range of topical, personal, and philosophical subjects as they relate to Birch's being a lesbian African-American woman living in the 21st Century.
Histories in Black and White features authors-fiction and non-fiction, poets and playwrights-speaking about their books. Their work exposes little known histories or too often marginalized communities to a broad audience. The program seeks to build bridges, enhance understanding and mutual respect.
