This Week’s Music Picks

Here are musician Ken Beasley’s top music picks on the Lower East Side this week:

New York Dolls

NEW YORK DOLLS – Thur., Mar 17 | 8PM at Bowery Ballroom

You know them – you love them. New York Dolls are back and hitting the stage at Bowery Ballroom. The Dolls first emerged in the 1970’s with what would originally seem a perplexing image combination consisting of a glam look and a rhythm & blues sound. But the groundbreaking group would soon win over legions of followers and carve out a place in New York’s dynamic musical history. Having disbanded as the 80’s neared, surviving members have reunited in recent years, with David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain remaining as the last two original members, keeping things dirty and dandy. $35// 6 Delancey St.

Weekend Music Picks

Here are musician Ken Beasley’s top music picks on the Lower East Side this weekend:

Ethan Lipton

ETHAN LIPTON – Friday, Jan. 7 | 9PM at Rockwood Music Hall

Musically, Ethan Lipton is all over the place. One second he’s honky-tonkin’ through a tune about aged people’s loss of hearing, and the next he’s singing a soft Brazilian samba about a woman’s need for a man to serve all her utilitarian desires. Lipton might swing from genre to genre, but it really, really works. Especially when it’s anchored by his cool wit and dynamic supporting band. FREE // 196 Allen St.
