The Lower East Side is losing another of its distinctive performance spaces. In an email blast today, Spectrum announced it would be closing its intimate classical music hall on an upper floor of 121 Ludlow St. and moving to Brooklyn.
Spectrum, which came to the neighborhood in 2012, is known for high quality intimate concerts. Here’s the announcement:
May will be Spectrum’s last month at the current space. We have unexpectedly found a new place in Fort Greene (Brooklyn) to which we may re-locate quickly (i. e., this month) and begin presenting new programs, starting with an opening party June 2.
There will be a farewell party Monday, May 22. Earlier this year, avant-garde icon John Zorn announced he would be moving his 2nd Street club to The New School next year. If you would like to check out the remaining concerts at Spectrum, see the schedule here. The new venue is located at 70 Flushing Avenue.
