Bed bug detecting dogs are one of the best ways to protect your home.
How can you monitor your home for signs of bed bugs?
Like most pests, bed bugs tend to be less active in the frigid winter months. One point winter! But just because they’re less active, unfortunately, does not mean that they are necessarily gone. If you happen to be waking up with suspicious bites, there are ways that you can monitor your home to determine if these bites are coming from bed bugs. At M&M Environmental, we work hard to keep you and your families bed bug-free.
A Lower East Side pest control company is fighting bed bug fear with humor. M & M Environmental, 32 Orchard Street, has rolled out a series of amusing t-shirts and an accompanying web site. You can see all of the designs at www.funnybedbugtshirts.com. The shirts feature assuring slogans, such as “Date Me: I’m Bed Bug Free” and “Bed Bug Free Forever.” New York City was, of course, gripped by bed bug hysteria last summer. The 2011 season (these critters love the heat and tend to hitch a ride with travelers) is just shifting into high gear. We profiled M & M Environmental (which has some very serious solutions to pest control) a couple of months ago.
Merchants and business owners up and down Orchard are calling for more police protection in the wake of Tuesday's violent robbery.
As we reported yesterday, this week’s violent attempted robbery at the Pilgrim vintage clothing boutique has focused new attention on shoplifting and other incidents that have plagued Orchard Street for the past several months. Still recovering from injuries suffered in Tuesday’s bloody altercation, the shop’s co-owner, Brian Bennett said, the situation has “gotten totally out of hand and we can’t defend ourselves.”
Bennett is certainly not alone among Orchard Street business owners, in his belief that more needs to be done to curtail crime on the neighborhood’s main commercial strip. Yesterday afternoon, the management at M & M Environmental, the pest control company at 32 Orchard, reached out to us. Timothy Wong, M & M’s director, said he’s been trying to get the police to pay more attention to incidents happening on lower Orchard (M & M is located between Canal and Hester streets) for several years.
Summer in the city means lots of things: outdoor concerts, street fairs, green market goodness! It also means, unfortunately, that bed bugs are back with a vengeance. As high season drew near, we tagged along recently with the technicians at M & M Environmental, a Lower East Side company on the front lines of New York’s epic bed bug battle. As you can see in the photo above, these guys are not messing around!
