Mostly sunny today with a high of 63. We hope you are joining us this evening for a lively panel discussion on the State of the Performing Arts on the Lower East Side.  We’ll be at the new Manny Cantor Center on East Broadway. The event is free and we’ll have some delicious local refreshments.

Hamilton Fish Park Play Center on Pitt Street - photo by Emilio Guerra

Thanks to Emilio Guerra for this photo of the Hamilton Fish Park on Pitt Street. You can visit his flickr pool here.  Look for another day of sunshine with a high of 81℉. It will be even warmer heading into the holiday weekend; tomorrow will be 86℉ with possible afternoon thunderstorms. We’ll have our Weekend Music Picks today, as well as another Hester Street Fair profile. Tonight there is a reception for the Artists in Residence at the Abrons Arts Center – we’ll get a chance to see what these talented painters, printmakers, photographers, sculptors, video and installation artists have been working on for the past year. For more happenings in the neighborhood and to submit your own LES event, visit our Calendar here.

Good Morning!

A hawk hangs out in Sara D. Roosevelt Park on Sunday afternoon.

We’re waking up to more snow. The forecasters say we’ll see around 3 inches. Look for a high of 37 today with winds gusting to 20 mph.  It’s Presidents Day. That means government offices, schools and some banks will be closed.  Not much official happening today, but it’s a busy week ahead. Check out our Calendar for details.

Good Morning!

Bring your rain gear with you this morning; showers will continue for the next few hours and then clear this afternoon with a high near 40℉. It will by gusty and cold this evening with a low of 14℉. Thanks to photographer Harvey Spears for sending along some more great shots from the Chinese Lunar New Year (and the photo above).  We’ll have more images to post later today. Also today, a profile of “industrial-engineer-turned-coffee-entrepreneur” Mike Caswell, who opened Roasting Plant coffee shop on Orchard in 2007.

Good Morning!
