UC Lounge Shuttered by Health Department

Saturday night's shows were relocated; the health department closure notice is visible through the mesh gate.

City health inspectors shut down UC Lounge Thursday night, after the live music and comedy venue racked up 53 points for sanitary violations, which included evidence of mice, improper protection against food contamination and the lack of a food-handling certificate by a supervisor.

Thursday’s closure followed a Nov. 30 inspection in which the bar, at 87 Ludlow between Broome and Delancey, drew 59 points for similar issues. It was allowed to remain open, pending last week’s reinspection.

Khushie Indian Kitchen Shuttered by Health Department

City health inspectors shut down Khushie Indian Kitchen on Essex Street yesterday.

Khushie Indian Kitchen, a tiny storefront at 139 Essex St. that does a big delivery and takeout business, was shuttered by the health department after an inspection yesterday. The restaurant was cited for seven sanitary violations, four of them ranked “critical.” Those included inadequate prevention of food contamination and the presence or evidence of rats. Less serious violations noted problems with the sewage disposal system and other plumbing issues.
