The beloved Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade returns to the East River Park Amphitheater this Sunday, October 20th, from noon – 3:00pm.  The event outgrew Tompkins Square Park and moved to the amphitheater a couple years ago.

They write:

The event is free and there is no need to pre-register your pet. Simply arrive between 11.30 – 1 p.m. and join in the celebration.

Runway competition begins at Noon…A parade of all contestants and spectators will follow after Best In Show is announced. Contestant and Raffle winners must be present at the end of the competition to receive their prize or it will be donated to charity.

The parade was created 29 years ago by Garrett Rosso in order to spread awareness about the need for dog parks in NYC. Over the years, the event has grown so large, it has been described as the largest Halloween Dog Parade in the world.
