Here’s a look at what’s coming up at Community Board 3 this month.

–The contentious issue of a gigantic new jail in Chinatown will come before the land use committee Tuesday, April 16. Last week, the city released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the mayor’s “Borough-Based Jail System.” This marked the beginning of the public review procedure for the projects. A new jail at 125 White St. (where the current city jail is located) would rise to 450 feet.

–On Wednesday, April 3 the economic development committee will once again chatter about, “a special enhanced commercial district” in the East Village to protect independent businesses.

–On Thursday, April 4 the human services committee will hear a presentation from Neighbors to Save Rivington House about the,  “state of nursing home care and (the) impact on care for (the) senior population.”

–On Monday, April 8 the NYCHA and Section 8 housing subcommittee will discuss the role of the federal monitor appointed to oversee NYCHA and the impact of proposed HUD budget cuts.

–On Thursday, April 11 the parks committee will resume talks about the city’s revised East Side Coastal Resiliency Plan.

–On Monday, April 8 the liquor licensing committee will meet to consider numerous applications. They include: an expansion for L’Estudio at 61 Hester St., a new concept at 106 Norfolk St. from the crew at La Contenta, a restaurant called Dizzy’s at 165 Allen St. and a plea from Hotel 50 Bowery to extend the hours of its second floor terrace from 9 to 11 p.m. The committee meets again April 15, when it will take up more proposals, including: a “Paint’n Pour’ outpost in the old Fat Baby lair on Rivington Street, a new bar called the Rabbit Box at 41 Essex St. and a place called Helen’s Kitchen at 172 Orchard St. (that’s the long-shuttered Mission Cantina location).
