Police say a woman who was struck by a car on Madison Street earlier this month has died of her injuries.
42-year-old Suzanne Egan was crossing mid-block, near Rutgers Street, when she was hit by a Honda Civic July 15. It was about 3:45 a.m. The driver, a 23-year-old man, stayed on the scene and he was not charged with any crime, the Daily News reported. Egan was rushed to Bellevue Hospital and was on a ventilator for about a week. Because there was no hope of recovery, the family decided to have her removed from a breathing machine Monday.
Friends have started a GoFundMe page to help pay for the funeral. It reads, in part, “(Suzanne’s) family has no money for a proper, dignified burial for her. But, she deserves nothing less. Suzanne is a wonderful person who had a hard life. Please find it in your heart to donate anything you can so Suzanne can be laid to rest in the manner she deserves.” About $4300 has been raised so far.
According to Patch, Egan lived in Sunset Park.
