The Katra Film Series returns to its signature venue on the Bowery this Saturday, July 21, for the 2018 Summer Series, marking its 6-year anniversary. This year’s official selections highlights shorts by many female filmmakers from around the world.

The lineup includes the world premiere of a gritty New York Film starring Michael Douglas’s son, Cameron Douglas and produced by Uma Thurman’s brother, Dechen Thurman. The series will also feature a block of timely films addressing the MeToo movement. The short film Honeypot, directed by Jill Greenberg, (internationally renowned artist and photographer) was inspired by the audio of Harvey Weinstein obtained by the NYPD’s sting operation in 2015 with Ambra Gutierrez. Lollipop, directed by Hanaa Saleh Alfassi (alumni of the Sundance Institute), is a powerful selection from Saudia Arabia about a 14-year-old girl experiencing the onset of puberty, which brings with it the requirement of wearing a full black Niqab.

The Best Short Prize will be selected by a live audience vote and the winner takes home over $2,000 of in-kind prizes.  You can buy tickets here.
