Grand Street Settlement will be giving away 16,000 books at two events on the Lower East Side this week. More details here:
–Thursday, June 14 at Rutgers Community Center, 200 Madison St., 3-5 p.m.
–Saturday, June 16, 80 Pitt St. (Grand Street Settlement Headquarters), 12:30-4 p.m.
The events are being held in partnership with the National Book Foundation, the New York City Housing Authority, and the New York Public Library, as part of the Book Rich Environments (BRE) initiative. The program is focused on so-called, “book deserts,” and seeks to foster a lifelong love of books in targeted communities.
Both English and Spanish language books will be available for kids ages 0-18.
