Police have arrested a suspect in the attack of an 84-year-old man on the Lower East Side April 24.
Chan Yung Sun was sitting on a bench in front of 124 East Broadway when a man came up to him, and began punching him in the face. The victim has undergone surgery twice as a result of the vicious beating.
Now the New York Post reports that a police officer in Times Square recognized the suspect, and took him into custody Saturday. The suspect, Ashley Williams, has 10 previous arrests, including one for robbery and nine for misdemeanors. Williams is homeless.
Police Officer Anthony Luciano had received a bulletin about the East Broadway incident earlier in the day. He recognized the suspect, because he’d seen him in the area on other occasions. Luciano found Williams sitting on a bench, and made the arrest.
