Police are looking for a suspect who attacked an 84-year-old man yesterday (Tuesday) morning on the Lower East Side.
The incident happened at around 10:20 a.m. on the street outside 124 East Broadway. That’s just up the street from the Knickerbocker Station Post Office. According to cops, the man was sitting on a bench when he was approached by an individual he did not know.
The suspect began striking the victim with a closed fist, causing lacerations. He then fled in an unknown direction. The victim was hospitalized for treatment.
The suspect is described by police as a Black male, approximately 38 to 42 years of age, around 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11, and weighing 175 pounds. UPDATE 4/26 Channel 4 identifies the victim as Chan Yung Sun, who will celebrate his 85th birthday in a few days. He suffered a broken bone in his face and required stitches. His great grand-daughter, Terence Chan, said, “I almost started crying… I just couldn’t believe that. He’s an 84-year-old man just sitting there minding his own business.”
