A 26-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet as she stepped out of a taxi on the Lower east Side early this morning. It happened at around 5 a.m. near the intersection of Ludlow and Rivington streets.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital and is expected to be ok. Police don’t believe she was the intended target. Cops are looking for the suspect, who was wearing a grey sweatshirt and fled on an electric bike.

The woman apparently got out of the cab and began to walk away when she felt something in her left shoulder. She then realized she had been shot.

More details as they become available.

UPDATE 10/16: Channel 2 spoke with the victim’s brother, who said she was released from the hospital Sunday morning and went home (she lives on Long Island). Doctors did not remove the bullet. Later in the day, the woman was “not feeling well,” so she went to the emergency room at a hospital near her home. Police are looking for a male suspect who is about 5’10”and weighs around 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and was riding a blue motor scooter.
