Community Board 3 will have its hands full next month reviewing applications for Lower East Side liquor licenses. The September agendas, released today, give us a first look at the restaurant and bar proposals to be heard at two separate meetings. The applications haven’t been uploaded just yet, so for now, details are sketchy. We’ve pulled out the items of interest:
–Randalls Hospitality LLC, 359 Grand St.; full bar/barbecue restaurant. This space was the onetime home of Shalom Chai Pizza. The kosher restaurant closed in 2014 and was destined to become a kosher seafood restaurant, but that concept fizzled. UPDATE: The space is owned by the Seward Park Cooperative. Last night, General Manager Frank Durant told us that the applicant will be interviewed by the co-op’s board of directors but there is currently no signed lease with Randalls Hospitality LLC at 359 Grand St. “They are trying to expedite CB3 approval,” said Durant.
–Saluggis East, 399 Grand St (full bar/extend hours to 4 a.m. all nights and add live music on Fridays & Saturdays). Saluggi’s, an existing restaurant, has been rejected by CB3 at least twice. Now the operators are adding a request for live music.
–Eli’s Night Shift (Eli Zabar LLC), 54 Mulberry St. (full bar). The Zabar family seems to be plotting an expansion of its Upper East Side beer bar in Chinatown.
–SVL NYC LLC, Essex St (Essex Crossing Site 1) (op). The operators of Splitsville Lanes, a bowling alley/entertainment complex, are preparing to open a large space in the basement of 242 Broome St., part of the big Essex Crossing project. They’ll be pitching CB3 on a liquor permit for the venue.
–Baohaus Bowery LLC, 48 Bowery (full bar). Celebrity chef Eddie Huang tries to charm CB3 into supporting his permit for a new version of his Baohaus restaurant in Chinatown.
–Tang Hotpot (Tang Hospitality Group LLC), 135 Bowery (wine/beer). This restaurant, offering Sichuan-style noodles, is already creating some buzz; it’s made several fall restaurant preview lists.
