Here’s a dispatch from the parent association at P.S. 20:
Earlier this month, the school was recognized as the citywide winner of the 2016-2017 Kathleen Grimm School Wellness Council of the Year Award.
P.S. 20, located at 166 Essex St., competed for the honor along with 176 other NYC schools. The award was presented by NYC Schools Commissioner Carmen Farina June 8. The P.S. 20 School Wellness Council includes teacher, parent and student members. The wellness program has been spearheaded for many years by teachers Julie Tran and Christine Drago.
The council created a School Wellness Policy, laying out goals for physical activity, student nutrition and health education. The school also developed a Healthy Snack & Drink Policy and an indoor recess plan for cold weather months.
