Police have now arrested a second suspect in the brutal beating of a Lower East Side resident on Orchard Street one week ago.

They picked up 23-year-old Shachin Gauchan in Woodside, Queens yesterday. His friend and neighbor, 23-year-old Nawang Choying, was arrested a day earlier. Both men have been charged with gang assault.

Last Friday morning, at around 2:45 a.m., cops believe Gauchan and Choying chased 24-year-old William Franco up Orchard Street, finally catching up with him and administering a vicious beatdown, which was caught on videotape. Franco, who lives in the neighborhood, required multiple stitches and staples, and has suffered some hearing loss.

Earlier in the evening, the suspects and victim apparently got into an argument inside Pianos, the Ludlow Street bar. The Daily News reported that Franco’s attackers were angered when he stepped on their shoes.

Choying was released yesterday on his own recognizance. The men are due back in court in May.
