Man Found Dead Friday Night Inside Ludlow House (Updated)

A 31-year-old man was found dead in an apartment on the Lower East Side last night, according to the Daily News.

After receiving a 911 call, police responded to a building on Ludlow Street, near Rivington Street, at around 11 p.m. The man was found in the bathroom of an apartment and he was unresponsive. He died at the scene.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. The man’s name has not been released.

UPDATE 12:27 p.m. The Daily News now reports that police believe the man died of a drug overdose. A source said that a hypodermic needle was in his hand when police arrived on the scene and heroin was found in the apartment.

UPDATE 2/26 While initial reports indicated the man was found inside an apartment, police now say the apparent overdose occurred at Ludlow House, the members-only club at 139 Ludlow St. According to Gothamist, Soho House (which operates Ludlow House) did not have an immediate comment about the situation.

UPDATE 2/28 The victim was identified by DNA Info as 31-year-old William Bernhardt of the East Village.
