Happening in the Lower East Side food world:
–It’s opening day for Trapizzino, the new Italian food concept at 144 Orchard St. (Stanton Street). Stefano Callegari is bringing a version of his Roman quick serve restaurants to New York. A Trapizzino has compared to a pita pocket. Crusty bread is split open and stuffed with different ingredients, such as braised oxtail, meatballs and tripe.
–The little soba restaurant, Cocoron, has moved all of its operations a few blocks to the west. In the past week, the team shuttered the original spot at 61 Delancey St. Cocoron is now concentrated in storefronts at 16 Delancey St., 29 Kenmare St. and 37 Kenmare St.
–The Xi’an Famous Foods empire is growing again. Xi’an’s main outpost in Chinatown has moved to a larger space at 45 Bayard St. Meanwhile, an offshoot called Dumpling Spot has debuted at 67 Bayard St. An official opening will happen on Saturday. The new spot serves a wider variety of Northern-Chinese style dumplings than you’re used to eating at Xi’an. Eater has more details.
–Starting March 1, the excellent ramen restaurant, Nakamura, will be open for lunch. Nakamura is located at 172 Delancey St., alongside the Williamsburg Bridge.
–NYC Beer Week kicks off this weekend. At Jimmy’s No. 43, look for “Battle of the Belgians,” this year featuring Trappist beers. This event happens Saturday. More details here.
