–Conceptual artist Jennifer Rubell is well-known for her participatory works incorporating food. This week on the Lower East Side, she’ll open her first solo-New York City show, Housewife, meant to, “engage the public through temptation, humor and physical suggestion.” In one piece, “viewers stand in for a groom carrying his bride through a doorway.” The show explores the “tricky question of female self-definition.” Wednesday, Jan. 18, 6-8 p.m., Sargent’s Daughters, 179 East Broadway. More info on The Lo-Down’s Calendar.

–Cherry Glazerr, the Los Angeles teen rock band, plays Bowery Ballroom this week. “The group’s secret weapon,” noted the New York Times,” is its singer and guitarist, Clementine Creevy, (who) is as deft at spinning tales about Ken Kesey’s ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ as she is at dissing Rob Kardashian.” Wednesday, Jan. 18, 9 p.m., Bowery Ballroom, website.

–If you haven’t caught Seth Herzog’s long-running comedy show at the Slipper Room, this could be your week. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 9 p.m., $7 at the door, Slipper Room, website

–Playwrights Neil LaBute, Marco Calvani and Marta Buchaca will be collaborating in three plays about power, as La MaMa’s Author Director Author series makes its return. Each playwright wrote a one-act play that one of the other writers directs. Previews begin Thursday, Jan. 19, 7 p.m., La MaMa, website.

–Many arts groups are taking part in a “week of protest” leading up to the inauguration of Donald Trump. Central Booking gallery is joining the movement. At 1 p.m., Sunday there will be musical performances incorporating the work of poets Bob Holman and Steve Dalachinsky. At 5 p.m., there will be a, “participatory smashing of Arthur Polendo’s five-foot piñata of Trump.”  Central Booking, website.
