A few weeks ago we mentioned the New York Public Library’s Lower East Side Oral History Project. So far, more than 30 interviews have been posted online featuring some of your neighbors. Coming up on Jan. 19, the library is hosting a kickoff celebration.
Held at the Seward Park Library, it will include a listening session (of oral histories collected to date), a preview of images from the LES Heritage Collection, a performance by local musician Oren Bloedow and refreshments. There will also be a screening of Yudie, a 16mm film shot in 1974. It’s a portrait of the filmmaker Mirra Bank’s resilient 70-year-old Jewish aunt, whose parents immigrated from Russia to the Lower East Side.
The program is from 6-8 p.m. All are welcome but the library would like you to RSVP if you plan to attend.
