Here’s an advisory from the city’s Department of Transportation. You’ll want to avoid FDR Drive at East Houston Street after midnight tonight until noon tomorrow. The bridge is being replaced at a cost of more than $15 million. The project isn’t expected to be completed until next summer.
From 12:01 am to noon on Saturday there will be no access to the FDR Drive northbound or southbound at Houston Street, and the East River Park pedestrian ramps at Houston Street will be closed, because of rehabilitation work on the Houston Street overpass. Motorists traveling northbound on the FDR Drive will be directed to exit the roadway at Exit 5 for Houston Street and continue onto the FDR Drive northbound entrance ramp. Motorists traveling southbound on the FDR Drive should take the recommended detour onto Exit 7 for East 23rd Street, and use 2nd Avenue to access downtown destinations. Motorists who continue on the FDR Drive southbound will be limited to one travel lane, and may experience delays.
Here’s more info about the project.
