Comprehensive Kids School Closes Its Delancey Street Location (Updated)

Must Read

You may have noticed the huge commercial leasing sign stretching across 130 Delancey St. Part of this building was formerly home to Comprehensive Kids Development School.

We started to hear from teachers and other staff members of the private special needs school in early September. They told us the school was suddenly closing and that they were struggling to collect paychecks.

Nathan Sklar, owner of the private school, talked with us about the situation recently. The city’s Department of Education stopped referring special education students and providing funds, he said. Sklar is now changing his business model to operate as a conventional preschool. He continues to hold a lease at 383 Grand St. At the time we spoke, Sklar said talks were ongoing with the landlord on Delancey Street about operating a medical center in the former school space.

Sinvin Realty has the commercial listing. Carter Management Corp. purchased 130 Delancey St. for $21 million in late 2012. We contacted the real estate firm for comment but there was no reply.

UPDATE 10/19 This morning we heard back from Kate Montague, the comptroller for Carter Management. She confirmed that Comprehensive Kids was evicted from the Delancey Street space for non-payment. Brokers are now marketing the second and third floors of the building to potential tenants.
