Here’s a new twist in Chinatown: Japanese-style poké bowls. In the past several days, a little spot called Chikarashi has opened at 227 Canal St. (just west of Baxter Street).

Michael Jong Lim, former executive chef at West Village Sushi restaurant Neta, is offering a contemporary take on Hawaiian poké bowls. They’re inspired by Japanese chirashi but Chinese and Korean flavors are also in the mix. Lim is using sashimi-grade fish, such as Bluefin Tuna, Fluke and Scottish Salmon.

The restaurant, featuring a single long counter, soft opened May 16. A grand opening is expected later this week. Hours right now are noon-4 p.m.
