A couple of years ago, a New York City businessman got a lot of attention when he proposed building a gondola to connect Williamsbrg with the Lower East Side. Now that the MTA is moving forward with plans to shut down the L Train for repairs, that businessman, Daniel Levy, is hoping the idea will have new appeal.
Levy, president of CityRealty, told DNA Info that he hasn’t given up on his vision to create an East River Skyway. It could conceivably transport 200,000 passengers each day, about 100,000 fewer than use the L Train daily. The trip across the river would take about five minutes.

For Lower Manhattan, Levy’s plans include building a station above Delancey Street that would connect either side of Sarah Roosevelt Park that sits between Chrystie and Forsyth streets… The project would cost up to $134 million, according to estimates from engineers, Levy said, and he’s looking to fund it entirely through private investors.
The train shutdown is anticipated in 2019.
