“World Indie,” “Transglobal Soul,” “Roots Pop” are all terms that can be used to summarize the Brooklyn-based Karikatura‘s sound, but it’s more fun to hear them for yourself and be surprised by the eclectic influences that pop up in this group’s music.

They are playing at The Bowery Electric this Thursday and will be celebrating the release of their new EP, Speak Now, which debuts on Ropeadope Records on April 15th.  Karikatura heads out for a month-long tour in Europe immediately after the show. The band points out the music on Speak Now is “stylistically diverse, yet unified by Karikatura’s characteristic sound: blazing horns, reggae guitars and Afro-Latin rhythms delivered with punk-rock energy.”

The album features songs that address pressing issues in our society: racism, guns, war and identity, urging awareness in an upbeat way that you’ll want to dance to. Have a listen on Bandcamp here.

Also on the bill: NYC bands Fulaso & Yotoco // $10 ADV Tix // $12 Door // 7:30pm // 21+.
