$20 a class, even $15 if you buy a bunch, is quite expensive — unaffordable — for their target audience. Shame on Manny Cantor Center for not making these class offerings more affordable.

MCC offers very heavily subsidized membership at something like $10/month for neighbors who qualify, which includes unlimited classes. I know Head Start families automatically qualify, but I believe there are lots of other ways to qualify, too.

My understanding (I don’t work for MCC) is that these “à la carte” prices are targeted at people who don’t qualify for the subsidized memberships and don’t go often enough to justify a regular priced membership.

Micah is quite right. They also offer a very favorable rate for seniors. Once you join, you can take classes and use all of the equipment in the gym. Everything there is top quality.
