You probably heard about Knicks forward Kevin Seraphin’s tribute to Paris during Sunday night’s game. In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks, the French native showed up with the haircut you see in this photo (the image is from Seraphin’s Instagram feed). Yesterday afternoon we heard from Eileen Goris, who works as an intake coordinator at Henry Street Settlement. She pointed out that the haircut was done by Marcos “Reggae” Smith, her nephew and a lifetime Lower East Side resident.

Smith is a celebrity barber who has worked with many sports and entertainment stars. Some of them, Eileen told us, include Jay Z, 50 Cent, NAS, Eminem and Deron Williams. Smith is based at First Choice Barbershop over by Sara D. Roosevelt Park. He spoke with DNA Info yesterday:

“He hit me up the night before and said ‘I want Paris on my head because I want to represent the tragedy in the country,’” said Smith… (He) designed the cut in about 15 to 20 minutes inspired, in part, by the Knicks’ logo.“I just replaced ‘Knicks’ with ‘Paris’ and the ‘a’ was the Eiffel Tower,” said Smith, who trimmed Seraphin’s hair Sunday morning before he was due on the court.

The photos of Seraphin went viral yesterday becoming a social media sensation.
