Here are some of the things happening on the Lower East Side today:

–The 293-room Hotel Indigo opens at 171 Ludlow St. It includes a large restaurant/bar on the 15th floor called Mr. Purple. We’ll have more details on the site later today.

–The Sheldon Silver federal corruption trial resumes this morning with continued testimony from Richard Runes, an attorney who represents Glenwood Management. The prosecution has suggested it could rest its case by the middle of this week, earlier than expected.

–At 6 p.m., the Manhattan Borough President holds a public hearing on Mayor de Blasio’s new zoning proposals to, ostensibly, create more affordable housing and improve building design. The plans have garnered strong opposition throughout the city, including on the Lower East Side. The hearing takes place at the Clinton School, 10 East 15th St. Here’s the link to submit testimony in advance.

–At 6:30 p.m., Community Board 3’s State Liquor Authority Committee meets at 59 East 4th St. You can see the agenda here.

–The NYPD is holding a community/crime forum at 6 p.m. at Murry Bergtraum High School, 411 Pearl St.

–At 7 p.m., a reading at City Lore of Christian McEwen’s “Legal Tender,” described as “a documentary collage about womens’ relationship to money.” $10, 56 East 1st St.

–The young singing sensation Shamir plays Bowery Ballroom at 9 p.m. $20.
