Here’s what’s happening in the Lower East Side restaurant world.
Zagat came out today with its 2016 rankings. The top 50 restaurants are mostly populated by fancy uptown spots (such as Le Barnardin, Bouley, Daniel). The highest rated Lower East Side entry is the Russ & Daughters Cafe on Orchard Street, which is scarcely more than a year old. In the food category, the cafe scored 26 out of 30 points. The top 10 restaurants in the neighborhood for food include: Pig & Khao, Morgenstern’s Ice Cream, Fung Tu, Roasting Plant, Clinton Street Baking Company, Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya, Cafe Katja, Katz’s Deli and Contra.
Stay Classy New York, the Will Ferrell-themed bar at 174 Rivington St., is grabbing more than its share of national exposure. Publications such as People, Time and MTV’s website have all found the gimmick hilarious.
Les Enfants de Bohème on Henry Street has launched a new “family supper.” An early seating is available from 5-7 p.m. and there’s a $12 prix-fixe menu for kids under the age of 12. There’s also a 10% discount for parents (includes food and wine). The menu offers children a choice of two kid-sized entrees from the dinner menu, a side of seasonal vegetables or dessert plus a drink. More details on the restaurant’s website.
