Katz’s Deli Agrees to Open Outpost in Brooklyn’s Dekalb Market

Katz's Deli.
Katz’s Deli.

Don’t worry! Katz’s Deli is staying put on the Lower East Side. But co-owner Jake Dell has now confirmed that the 126-year-old institution is expanding to downtown Brooklyn.

He tells Florence Fabricant in the New York Times that the deli will open an outpost in the Dekalb Market, a new food hall now under construction. “The main thing is that it’s hard to get down to the Lower East Side, and Brooklyn has been a strong part of our customer base,” Dell explained. “We can make it a little easier for our customers who have been coming for generations.”

Katz’s in Brooklyn will not be a full-fledged restaurant. The Dekalb Market is expected to open in about a year.
