Grand Street Settlement is preparing to celebrate its 100th anniversary. On Saturday, the Lower East Side social services organization threw a block party on Pitt Street to start the 100-day countdown for the big event.
Actor and Lower East Side native Victor Rasuk (How to Make It in America, Fifty Shades of Grey) was the emcee (he’s a board member and participated in GSS programs as a kid). There was food, as well as games and entertainment. #JumpstartChange Awards were handed out to 15 community members. Recipients included Chef Wylie Dufresne and other volunteers in Grand Street Settlement’s Taste of the Lower East Side.
On Saturday, the organization launched “100 Ways to #JumpstartChange,” a call to action encouraging New Yorkers to help make their communities stronger. Throughout the year’s centennial celebrations, community members will have opportunities to take part in a range of community initiatives and service projects.
