A new nightlife concept is on the way at 96 Orchard St. Chef Johann Giraud plans to open a cocktail, wine and tapas bar called “Excuse My French” in the former Cafe Dancer space.

Until last summer, Giraud was chef at Ladurée Soho, a restaurant and tea house opened by the venerable Parisian bakery. Previously he ran the kitchen at La Mangeoire in Midtown. Here’s a blurb from his Linkedin profile explaining the new venture:

Excuse My French- NYC, a fresh new take on tapas and cocktails. Chef Johann Giraud is working on an exciting new menu bringing together his experience and passion for food in the form of delicious tapas. This will be an experience not to be missed. His goal his for you to not only enjoy his cuisine but for your experience at the bar to be something to look forward to. You walk in the door and your stress and troubles will melt away as you enjoy the hospitality from the team at Excuse My French-NYC.

Giraud will go before Community Board 3’s liquor licensing committee next month in a quest for a full bar. He’s anticipating a September opening.

Cafe Dancer closed last spring after three years at 96 Orchard St.
