Police are looking for a suspect in the assault of a woman on East Broadway Saturday night. According to a report from Channel 7, a 19-year-old Muslim victim was approached at around 10:40 p.m. in front of 109 East Broadway (Pike Street). The suspect punched the woman and spit in her face while making anti-Muslim statements. The case is being investigated as a possible hate crime.
The victim suffered a fractured jaw. She was taken to Beth Israel Hospital for treatment. Surveillance video showed the suspect walking on Eldridge Street. Cops describe him as a black man, approximately 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 and wearing a dark-colored hat, dark-colored pants, dark-colored shirt and carrying a plastic bag.
