Egg Rolls, Egg Creams & Empanadas Festival Returns to Eldridge Street Sunday

Coming up on Sunday, it the 15th annual Egg Rolls & Egg Creams Festival from the Museum at Eldridge Street. This year, the cultural mash-up adds empanadas. The celebration of the Jewish, Chinese and now Puerto Rican communities on the Lower East Side takes place from noon-4 p.m. on Eldridge between Canal Street and Division Street.

Every year, the museum’s block party attracts more than 8500 people. There will be performances throughout the day, including klezmer, bomba, plena, Peking opera, and cantorial music. You’ll be able to watch cooking demos including kreplach, empanada and dumpling-making. There will even be a Chinese tea ceremony. Other activities include:

  • Mini Yiddish, Mandarin, and Spanish language lessons
  • Folk artists demonstrating Hebrew and Chinese scribal art and Chinese and Puerto Rican mask making
  • Community arts and crafts
  • Tours of the historic Eldridge Street synagogue
  • And, of course, the sale of  egg rolls, egg creams and empanadas.
