Post: Equinox Leases 30,000 Sq. ft. at 196 Orchard St.

The New York Post reports that the Equinox fitness club will be opening a new location inside the luxury residential and commercial building planned for the southeast corner of Orchard and East Houston streets. The site, right next to Katz’s Deli, is one of the latest high end projects of reviled developer Ben Shaoul.

The chain is taking 30,000 sq. ft. on the second and third floors. Another 30,000 sq. ft. is still available. According to the Post, Shaoul was represented by his own in-house team while his partners, Real Estate Equities, was represented by Ripco Real Estate. The ground floor space is priced at $300/sq. ft.

Equinox has 23 clubs in Manhattan, including locations in Soho and Tribeca.

The building is expected to include 83 apartments. It hasn’t been announced whether this will be a condo or rental project.
