We already mentioned that many of the neighborhoods synagogues will be holding open houses this weekend.  If you want to immerse yourself in the Jewish history of Lower Manhattan you might also consider the Jewish Conservancy’s Colonial New Amsterdam Walking Tour on Sunday.  It will include a visit to the oldest known Jewish cemetery (Congregation Shearith Israel) in the city, located in Chatham Square.  From 1654 to 1825 all Jews in New York belonged to this one congregation. Other sites include early Spanish and Portuguese rented synagogues and the Mill Street Synagogue, the first synagogue built in North America. The two-hour tour starts at 10:45 a.m. and costs $22.
