Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer today announced the 2015 appointees to local community boards. There are 90 new members across 12 community boards. New faces on Community Board 3, which includes the Lower East Side and most of Chinatown, include:
- Melvin Cartegena
- Eric Diaz
- David Ford
- Debra Glass
- Dan Ping He
- Nancy Ortiz (formerly public member)
- Trever Holland (formerly public member)
- LaRissa Shainberg (appointed by Council member Chin)
- Luke Henry (formerly public member/appointed by Council member Mendez)
- Damaris Reyes (formerly public member/appointed by Council member Mendez)
- Wilson Soo (appointed by Council member Chin)
Half of the appointees are chosen by the Borough President and half by local Council members (Margaret Chin and Rosie Mendez in the case of CB3). We don’t have full biographical info on the new members as of yet. Some early notes, though. Damaris Reyes, executive director of GOLES (the affordable housing advocacy group), has joined CB3 as a full member. She had been serving as a public member of the land use committee. Wilson Soo of the Two Bridges Neighborhood Council (and co-chair of the Chinatown Working Group) is a new face on the board. Also, Trever Holland, tenant leader at Two Bridges Tower, becomes a full member, as does Vladeck Houses Tenant President Nancy Ortiz. You can see the full list in the document embedded below.
One name missing from the appointment list is Ayo Harrington, a longtime community activist who was in the headlines quite a lot last year. The Borough President’s office confirms she was not reappointed. Other members who won’t be returning for various reasons (some resigned): Justin Carroll, Jimmy Cheng, Flora Ferng, Gloria Goldenberg, John Leo, Penina Mezei, Ariel Palitz andTeresa Pedroza.
