Extell Development looks to be downsizing its massive tower under construction at 227 Cherry St./250 South St. Documents were filed with the Department of Buildings last month that show a revised plan to create a 56 story mixed use tower on the former Pathmark site. Previously, 71-stories was anticipated.

According to the filing, the complex is now a total of 773,611 sq. ft. All but 25,000 sq. ft. would be reserved for residential use. Extell has been planning to build a 205-unit affordable tower alongside the larger luxury project. It’s unclear whether the affordable building will also shrink.

In the past few months, residents have been pressing Extell to reveal architectural drawings of the South Street project. They were finally forced to post a vague drawing on the construction fence, but have not gone public with full-fledged designs.

  1. Extell really needs to be investigated by the Attorney Generals office. Poor doors, donations to Cuomo and then extell gets to build the ugliest buildings and get away with zoning & preservation issues.
