ETHEL WOODWARD (November 4, 2006 – March 6, 2015)
Woodward Gallery’s beloved ETHEL passed away at age 9 of natural causes.  Sharpei ETHEL Woodward was the kind- hearted and welcoming, wagging tail to all that saw her at the Gallery front doors.  Along with her late sister Lucy, together they formed the original greeting committee and ambassadors for Woodward Gallery -the honored Chinese dog breed for our LES/ Chinatown neighborhood. ETHEL was the local neighborhood mascot, having been photographed for international magazine articles, album covers, The Daily Dog, The New York Sun, Juxtapoz Art and Culture Magazine— as well as by countless visitors.  She is survived by her 3 year old sister, blue Sharpei Betty Woodward. Mourners from around the country have expressed their condolences with flowers, cards and online tributes.

Ethel and Lucy, beloved Woodward Gallery greeters.

  1. Great photos of lovely, sweet Ethel. She was philosophical and wise, very gentle and funny. She will be so missed!
