Here’s our mid-week restaurant/food roundup:

  • Grub Street has El Rey’s new dinner menu. The vegetable-focused luncheonette at 100 Stanton St. starts serving evening fare at 5:30 p.m. Offerings include: vegan chicharrones, Portuguese sardines, charred radicchios and papas bravas with pickled pineapple hot sauce.
  • The owners of a new cider bar plan to open at 162 Orchard St. by early March.
  • Chef Hung Huynh tells Zagat he parted ways with the EMM Group because it was “hard to get taken seriously by somewhere like the New York Times.” The nightlife conglomerate’s restaurant on the Bowery, The General, Huynh said, was “packed on the weekends but quite slow early in the week. It was almost one block too far south for the weekday crowd.”
  • The Village Voice chats with the Meatball Shop guys, who opened their first location on Stanton Street five years ago.
