It looks like the end of the line for Rob Shamlian’s troubled nightlife/dining spot, The Derby. There are “for sale” signs posted outside at 167 Orchard St. reading, “Submit best and final offer by Jan. 15.” The restaurant normally opens at noon for brunch, but the place was deserted and shuttered today. Shamlian first opened a place called Tiny Fork in this spot. It lasted for around a year before he changed the concept this past spring, rebranding the space as a Southern-style restaurant. Shamlian, the owner of several LES nightlife venues, fought a long battle with neighborhood activists, the community board and the State Liquor Authority over liquor sales in a downstairs lounge.
