City Council member Margaret Chin just released this statement regarding Sheldon Silver:
The charges against Speaker Silver are deeply serious and deeply concerning. The Speaker has been a strong advocate for the Lower Manhattan community, and he has especially been a champion for local schools and affordable housing. I am personally very troubled by these allegations against the Speaker, but I will refrain from passing judgment on his current legal situation until the judicial process is complete. This must not deter or distract our community from continuing to fight for the renewal of strong rent regulation in Albany and the construction of new public schools in Lower Manhattan.
Margaret Chin has been very close to Shelly lately. She was his favorite council person lately. There is nothing but photos of them together this past year. She was currying favor with him to make sure she had his support for her next election. Now she is being very careful with her words. Please Margaret, everybody knew that Shelly was a crook and it was confirmed when Rapfogel was sent to the slammer for his $9 Million heist of the Met Council. You think his buddy Shelly or his wife never got a piece of that. Please Margaret, don’t act the fool now, it’s unbecoming. We’ll wait for your next run and make sure we remind you of your silence.
