Pedestrian Killed Near Bowery Mission; Driver Arrested After Fleeing

A reader sent along this photo showing the aftermath of a traffic accident on the Bowery last night near the Bowery Mission. Police say a pedestrian was killed by the 24-year-old driver of a BMW sedan. The driver did not stop after striking the victim, but continued moving on the Bowery for some distance and hit a fire hydrant at Stanton Street.  Witnesses say he then got out of the car and fled before police caught up with him.  No word yet on charges. More to come…

UPDATED 7:55 a.m. The name of the driver is Danny Lin. Police say he was arrested  for fleeing the scene. Charges are still being determined. The victim was a familiar presence in the area as a resident of the Bowery Mission. He was identified as 57-year-old Robert Perry.
